When this years Winter Olympics rolled out in Peyongchang Korea a handful of athletes had overcome a special set of challenges just to participate. These are the athletes with hearing loss.
Like Elena Yakovishina, a downhill skier from Russia, was born with hearing loss and wears hearing aids while competing, the US snowboarder Amy Purdy – or the US figure skater, Adam Rippon who has an 80 percent hearing loss.
Regardless of the level of hearing loss, hearing aids are making a big difference for athletes. The Winter Olympics were both a celebration of the fighting spirit of the participants and a testament to the empowering potential of well developed hearing aid technology.
